Nursery class topic this term is ‘FOOD, COLOUR & HEALTHY EATING’

We have included a few important weekly events and some suggestions to enable your child’s transition to be as happy and comfortable as possible.

Please could you help your child in the following ways: –

Reading & Writing: encourage your child to share books, recite nursery rhymes and talk about the story content and the illustrations.  If you could encourage your child to write their own name and writing through their play. We will be sharing lots and books and stories about FOOD beginning with The Hungry Caterpillar.

Number Skills:  counting and recognising numbers from 0-5 (also finding numbers in their environment) and writing numbers are ways to help your child develop number skills. Singing number rhymes eg: 5 Little Ducks will help them to reinforce this knowledge. We will be learning how to count objects up to 5/10, recognise numbers 1-5, learning shape names and recognising colours.

Thematic Work: encourage the re-telling of stories and nursery rhymes. Talk about their outdoor environment, particularly if they are shopping or helping to bake or cook at home. Also, help your child to recognise the names of different foods describe their textures and colours.

Snack Money: £2.00 each week collected on Monday morning.

Reading Day: Monday – it is important that the blue reading folder is returned every week so that your child can change their individual library/reading book. We will start this after half term holidays when all the children are settled in Nursery. This is an important time to share discussions about the story books and allow your child time to talk about the events and characters in the stories.

Uniform: Can be purchased in school or through at most local stores and is worn everyday with appropriate school shoes.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and hope that we can help to share in your child’s learning journey and make it a happy and positive one in the Nursery Class.
