Homework
At Dane Bank, we believe homework should be purposeful and manageable for children and families. Homework focuses on developing essential basic skills such as reading, number fluency and spelling which are key to supporting children’s wider learning in school. By strengthening these foundations, homework helps children build confidence, independence and a love of learning that carries into the classroom.
We have two types of homework at Dane Bank:
"Power Practice" Homework
“Power Practice” is our name for the key learning we ask all children to complete at home each week. These activities focus on the most important skills that support success in learning across the curriculum. These short, regular tasks make a big difference – they help children build confidence; develop strong foundations and keep up momentum with their learning. We ask all families to prioritise “Power Practice” each week – even just a few minutes a day can have a powerful impact on children’s learning and progress.
"Power Boost" Homework
“Power Boosts” are optional, pick and mix, home learning tasks designed to spark curiosity, creativity, confidence and conversations at home. They are a chance for children to explore their learning in different ways – whether it’s through practical tasks; creative projects or family activities. They build on the core “Power Practice” tasks and link to what we are learning about in school this half term. We hope they give the children the chance to focus on elements of their learning that they enjoy the most. There’s no pressure… just opportunities to “Boost” their learning “Power”!
Each half term, a homework overview is sent out so that parents can see the suggested Power Boost homework tasks for the term. You can see a Year 6 example below:

Staff check on the "Power Practice" homework weekly and at the end of each half term, opportunities are planned in to allow children to share their "Power Boost" homework with each other.
Class Dojo points are given as rewards for children completing these home learning tasks.
