Summer Term

Maths

In Reception class the children will be investigating and learning the number bonds to ten.  They will be learning about odd and even numbers and will be doubling numbers up to double five and finding half of amounts up to ten.  The children will be sorting, matching and counting objects. They will be comparing objects according to size, mass and capacity.  The children will also to completing simple patterns, naming and finding properties of 2D and 3D shapes.

English

We will be having themed weeks based on Caryl Hart’s books about a boy called Albie, who goes on lots of adventures!  The children will be reading and performing Dear Zoo.  They will also write their own versions of the story.  We will be reading lots of non-fiction books about sea creatures, plants and butterflies.

The children will be consolidating phase 3 phonics and will be starting phase 4 this term.  They will be using their phonics knowledge to help them to read and write simple words and sentences.

Other Areas of Learning

Our theme for the term is growth and animals.  We have got lots of exciting things planned for this half term.  The children will be doing observational drawings and paintings of plants and animals. They will get to observe the life-cycle of a butterfly and investigate the changes in the environment as we move into summer.  We will also be visiting the local shops and we hope to go to the seaside!
